Korea to China, S. E. Liaoning; upon grassy areas on loamy soil. Although its habitat is relatively close to Japan Lilium amabile has never been reported to occur there as well.

Lilium amabile appears in several colour-variants, which is why the taxonomically incorrect name var. luteum arose. Basically, we strictly adhere to the names of the incoming material.
