Lilium apertum (Franchet) E. H. Wilson 1925<\/strong> (formerly Nomocharis aperta)<\/p>\n

Origin:<\/strong>
\nChina (SW Sichuan, Xizang, NW Yunnan), N. Myanmar; in broad-leaved forests, bamboo scrub, alpine grasslands; altitude at 3.000 – 3.900 m. Sometimes Lilium apertum shares the same habitat with Lilium souliei but even then seems far more tolerant in cultivation than soulei is.
\nThe habitats of (Lapert2) are defined as follows, Yunnan, Nujiang, Biluo Xueshan, altitude 3.600 – 3.900 m.<\/p>\n

Laboratory comment:<\/strong>
\nThis lily shows an aversion towards Agar-Agar. Germination is pretty easy and fast in a liquid sowing medium. When germination occurs, the very young seedlings are replated into a further liquid medium, activated charcoal added, before the first leaf has developed. Most of our sowing-media are charcoal-free. It’s always exciting to observe how coincidences can occasionally direct. We prepared sowing-medium and forgot to add agar-agar to one batch. And then we didn’t want to throw these flasks away, had enough apertum seeds in stock and put them into this liquid medium. Since then this medium-recipe has become one of our favourites when seedlings are sulking. <\/p>\n
